Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

@FIUMensSoccer Falls to (RV) Wake Forest, 3-2

Panthers score in the early stages, but concede three-straight in loss

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 30, 2015) – The FIU men's soccer team (0-2-0) dropped a tough 3-2 decision to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Sunday evening. Junior Thibault Civalier and sophomore Paul Marie scored the two Panther goals in the loss.

For the match, FIU recorded a total of eight shots compared to Wake's nine shots. The Panthers did push the attack throughout the contest, forcing seven corner kicks after getting none at North Carolina on Friday. In addition, junior keeper Arthur Clapot made his first career start in goal in an FIU uniform.

The Demon Deacons produced the first pressure of the match in the eighth minute, firing off two shots in a matter of seconds, one being blocked and the other going wide, before FIU countered on the other end. In the 10th minute, junior Marvin Hezel initially headed a ball that rung off the post. From there, the rebound found Civalier's foot where he tagged it to the inside left post for the goal. Hezel was credited with an assist on the goal.

The Demon Deacons capitalized in the 25th minute to tie the match up at one. Wake's Michael Gamble from 16 yards out on the left side of the box found the far post upper corner to record his first goal of the season. Between the first and second goal for Wake Forest, neither team provided much of an offensive attack except for an FIU corner kick in the 36th minute. Then, the Demon Deacon's Kevin Politz put Wake up 2-1 in the 40th minute when a loose ball in the box was tapped in.

Nearly five minutes into the second half, Wake's Jack Harrison gave the Demon Deacons a two-goal lead. However, Marie got the Panthers closer in the 73rd minute. He scored from short-distance, finding the top-shelf on a tough angle near the touch line to cut the lead to 3-2.

With the Panthers pressing for that game-tying third goal, Marie was issued a red card with under 10 minutes in regulation for a tough challenge on the Wake Forest keeper.

The Panthers are back in action this Thursday, when it hosts Fairfield at 7 p.m. at the FIU Soccer Stadium. All students are admitted free to FIU Soccer matches.
