FT. MYERS, Fla. (Sept. 13, 2015) – After an hour-plus rain delay, the FIU women's soccer team (3-4-0) fell to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, 2-0, on a rainy Sunday at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
The Eagles controlled the possession battle throughout the first 10 minutes, until sophomore
Paula Quintero dished Florida Gulf Coast's Brittany Brown her first test of the day in the 14
th minute. A foul on the Panthers in the 19
th minute set up the Eagles' Ali Rogers for her first goal of the season. From 25 yards out, Rogers fielded the free-kick and redirected the ball into the back of the net. Redshirt senior
Marie Egan tried to sink the equalizer in the 33
rd minute, but the keeper came up with the save. Florida Gulf Coast made it a two-goal lead in the 38
th minute with a cross from the left flank that connected with Darien Davis from a close-range insurance goal.
The Panthers' offense struggled to generate chances in the second stanza, as the Eagles held FIU without a look on net. Junior
Sophia Trujillo came up with two saves in the half to keep the Eagles from tacking on another goal.
FIU returns home on Friday, Sept. 18 with a 7 p.m. first touch against UC-Irvine.
