@FIUWSoccer Defeats UTSA Roadrunners 3-1

Box Score MIAMI (Sept. 25, 2015) – The FIU Panthers (5-5-0) defeated the visiting UTSA Roadrunners (0-8-1) by a score of 3-1,Friday evening at the FIU Soccer Stadium in Miami, Fla. FIU's three goals were scored by freshman Lyrik Fryer, senior Scarlet Montoya and junior Alyssa Robinson.

The Panthers out-shot the Roadrunners 26-3 and 8-1 on goal.

FIU opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a nifty goal by Fryer (Issaquah, Wash.) off a corner kick by senior Madlen Weinhardt (Deckenpfronn, Germany). The goal by Fryer was the first of her young career.

In the 19th minute, Montoya (Miami, Fla.) put the ball into the back of the net, beating the UTSA keeper in front of the box for her first goal of the year.

The Roadrunners would mount a comeback later in the first half, cutting the score to 2-1 in the 35th minute on a goal by Channing Machen. She was assisted by Jenny Trommer.

FIU was very aggressive in the first half of the match, besting UTSA 17-2 in shots and 5-1 in shots on goal.

As time wound down in the match, Robinson (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) put the game out of reach in the 88th minute when she took the ball from midfield, passing the ball to junior Ellen Crist (St. John's, Fla.) along the sideline. Crist then crossed it back into Robinson who touched it past the keeper in front of the box for her fourth goal of the season.

@FIUWSoccer returns to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 27 to take on the UTEP Miners at 1 p.m., at the FIU Soccer Stadium in Miami, Fla.
