@FIUVolleyball Looks for a Pair of Conference Wins this Weekend At Home

MIAMI (October 19, 2016) – The FIU volleyball team (7-14, 1-6 in C-USA) hosts Marshall (16-6, 5-2 in C-USA) on Friday, October 21 and Louisiana Tech (10-13, 1-6 in C-USA) on Sunday, October 23.

FIU is looking to turn things around after this past weekend's back-to-back 3-0 losses to Charlotte and No. 25 WKU.

Senior Katie Hogan led the team with nine kills in the WKU match. Mariana De Paula Silva and Tajia Thomas both contributed five kills apiece. Last weekend, Hogan surpassed some of her previous personal records. She is on track to almost double her season stats in several categories from last year. Hogan has posted 221 kills and 163 digs this season surpassing her 2015 totals in both categories.

Scouting Marshall: This is FIU's second matchup against Marshall for the season, this time with a home court advantage. Earlier this month, the Panthers lost to the Thundering Herd, 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-13). Since then, Marshall has advanced to 5-2 in the conference and 16-6 overall. On Monday, Marshall's Allie Kellerman was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the week for the fourth time this season. Ja'cara Walker and Madison Hill have been  named Freshman of the Week twice this season. The Thundering Herd are coming off a 3-1 road win against Louisiana Tech this past Sunday (25-23, 25-23, 28-30, 25-20).

Scouting Louisiana Tech: Louisiana Tech and FIU are currently in a three-way tie with Charlotte at 1-6 in the conference. They are coming off of back-to-back losses last week to Southern Miss and Marshall. Currently, the Panthers lead the all-time series 7-5.  This season, LA Tech brings a very consistent defense to the court, shown by their .192 opponent hitting percentage, which ranks them fourth amongst C-USA teams. They also lead the league in service aces with 116. They will face Florida Atlantic on Friday night before traveling to Miami for Sunday's match.

First serve at Lime Court is scheduled for 7 p.m. this Friday.

Live stats and video streaming can be seen on FIUSports.com and C-USA TV.
