FGCU Advance Rogers flying for block

Women's Basketball

First Road Game for @FIUWBB is Tuesday at FGCU

MIAMI (November 14, 2016) -- FIU women's basketball plays its first game away from Lime Court at FIU Arena in the 2016 road opener, at FGCU Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Fort Myers. The game, which will be streamed live on ESPN3, is the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs.

FIU took a 17-point loss Friday night in the season-opening home game, 69-52, to UCF. The Panthers shot well from three-point range (6-for-13, 46.2 percent) and recorded five blocks, but the home team struggled to rebound (15 total) and had 13 more turnovers than the Knights in the home loss. The team also hit 10 of its 12 free attempts in the contest.

In the game, FIU got 16 points from returning sophomore point guard Kristian Hudson (Birmingham, Alabama) and 13 in the return of 2015 Conference USA Freshman of the Year Kiandre'a Pound (Gifford, Florida / Sebastian River HS), who missed the entire 2015-16 campaign.

FGCU played a pair of games in the state of Connecticut last weekend, losing the opener by 10 points at Quinnipiac and winning by seven at Hartford Sunday. The Eagles, who lost nine players to graduation in last season's program-record 30- win campaign, have not gotten off to a hot start from behind the arc, shooting just 24.1 percent through two contests.

FGCU has won all previous seven meetings in the all-time series, including all three games at Alico Arena.

The Panthers return home the following Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a contest against Georgetown. It will be the Hoyas' first game at FIU after a pair of contests at the start of the century in the nation's capital.
