MIAMI (Nov. 5, 2016) – Winning 12 of the 13 events, the FIU swimming and diving team (6-1) defeated the North Florida Osprey, 168-85, on Saturday afternoon from the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
In dominant fashion, the Panthers collected their sixth-straight win and improved to 3-0 at home this season.
FIU opened the afternoon taking the top two spots in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of
Jennifer Alfani,
Taylor Grabenhorst,
Letizia Bertelli and
Naomi Ruele won the event with a time of 1:44.26 followed by the team of
Karin Tomeckova,
Chase Harris,
Ally Mayhew and Jennifer Diest with a time of 1:47.73.
The Panthers placed first, second and third in the 1000 Free as
Megan Bowen registered the top time of 10:36.93.
Rachel Whitaker (10:39.88) and
Oceane Peretti (10:39.97) rounded out the top three finishers.
In the 200 Free,
Skye Carey placed first with a time of 1:52.63, while
Kyna Pereira took second with a time of 1:54.62. FIU won its fourth-straight event as Ruele claimed first place in the 100 Back with a time of 57.03. Alfani placed second scoring a 57.42. Grabenhorst won her first of two individual titles, winning the 100 Breast with a time of 1:06.21. The Orlando, Florida, native also won the 200 Breast posting a 2:25.15.
Ruele claimed the best time in the 100 Free (52.39) followed by Bertelli (52.64). FIU swept the top three spots in both the 50 Free and the 500 Free. Bertelli (24.20), Deist (24.59) and Mayhew (24.94) finished in the top three in the 50 Free, while Pereira (5:07.80), Carey (5:08.72) and Bowen (5:09.43) went one, two and three in the 500 Free. Pereira also claimed the top time in the 200 Back (2:07.11), while Mayhew won the 100 Fly (57.46) and Carey won the 200 IM (2:09.47).
The Panthers closed out the meet winning the 200 Free as Ruele, Alfani, Bertelli and Deist recorded a time of 1:35.59.
FIU will next travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to take part in the Louisville Invitational Nov. 18-20.
