@FIUWBB Begins Home Stand Saturday Afternoon

MIAMI (December 2, 2016) -- FIU women's basketball begins a five-game home stand Saturday afternoon, with a 2 p.m. tipoff scheduled against Jacksonville on Lime Court at FIU Arena.
 
The Panthers and Dolphins have each won three games in the six-game all-time series, with JU winning the last two in the series, including in the River City last December 6. The all-time scoring totals for the two teams in six games are separated by just three total points (347-344) in favor of the Panthers.
 
The Panthers won their previous home contest last Sunday over Robert Morris, 59-57. A win Saturday would give FIU its first home winning streak since the 2012-13 season. The Panthers are 1-5 overall, with freshman Alexis Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida / Covenant Christian HS) leading the way with 12.5 points per game. The reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Week leads the league in made three-pointers (3.2) per game and is tops in the league among players who have made 13 or more threes with a 43.2 shooting percentage from behind the arc. As a team, FIU ranks second in the league with a 36.8 shooting percentage from long distance. She is fourth in the league in minutes played, second on the team to sophomore point guard Kristian Hudson (Birmingham, Alabama), who is second in C-USA with an average of 36.7 minutes played per game.
 
Jacksonville is off to its best start in six seasons at 5-2. The Dolphins have won their last two contests and average nearly 66 points per game. JU has a nine rebounds-per-game edge on opponents this year, but an assist-to-turnover ratio just above .612 for the season. FIU shoots near 100 points higher than the Dolphins from the free throw line. Sherranda Reddick leads the Atlantic Sun Conference with an average of 21 points per game this season. She is a three-point sharpshooter, nailing better the 46 percent of her treys, while the only Dolphin with more than 10 assists and 10 steals on the season through seven games.
