@FIUSwimDive Takes Two of Three in Quad-Meet

MIAMI (Dec. 29, 2016) – The FIU swimming and diving team (9-2) downed two of three opponents during a quad meet with Yale, Cornell and Calvin College on Thursday evening at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
 
The Panthers defeated Cornell, 177-122, and Calvin College, 240-57.
 
In the 200 Medley Relay, the team of Naomi Ruele, Taylor Grabenhorst, Letizia Bertelli and Jennifer Deist registered FIU's top time of 1:44.67 for a second-place finish. Kyna Pereira recorded the team's best time in the 1000 Free (10:17.17) while Megan Bowen finished third in the 200 Free (1:54.12) for the Panthers' best result.
 
Skye Carey finished second in the 100 Back with a time of 57.06 and newcomer Carita Luukkanen tallied a time of 1:06.37 in the 100 Breast to place fourth. Her time is the fourth-best of the season for the Panthers.
 
Bertelli posted a 23.84 in the 50 Free to finish third and had the team's top time in the 100 Free (52.40) for second. Carey recorded her second top-three performance, finishing second in the 200 Back with a time of 2:05.92.
 
Luukkanen recorded the team's best time in the 200 Breast (2:26.03) to place fourth. Pereira finished third in the 500 Free, posting a 5:02.35. Bertelli notched a second-place finish in the 100 Fly (56.28).
 
In the 400 Free Relay, the team of Bowen, Deist, Pereira and Carey closed out the meet with a second-place finish (3:31.75).

Earlier in the meet, diver Rebecca Quesnel took second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter programs. The Burlington, Ontario, product posted a score of 254.60 in the 1-meter and a score of 258.25 in the 3-meter.

FIU will next take part in the Orange Bowl Swim Classic on Jan. 3, in Key Largo, Florida.
