MIAMI (March 14, 2016) -- Following its weekend sweep of Conference USA foe Charlotte, the FIU Panthers softball program will host its final midweek opponent, with Rutgers heading to Felsberg Field at the FIU Softball Stadium for a 5 p.m. doubleheader. FIU is 17-10 overall on the season, with the Scarlet Knights sitting at 9-14.

The Panthers played six games last week, finishing 4-2. Junior
Gabby Spallone (Miami, Florida / Palmetto HS) collected 10 hits for the week, batting .500 in the six games. The Panthers hit four home runs in the series against Charlotte to open league play. On Saturday, FIU hit a pair of two-run home runs in the bottom of the fifth to win a run-rule game, 8-0 over the 49ers, who were receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA poll. A.J. Belans (Hollywood, Florida / American Heritage HS), who collected three of the four RBI in the 4-2 series win.

Rutgers heads to Miami fresh off an appearance at Florida Atlantic's Parent's Weekend Tournament, winning three of their five games in Boca Raton. The Scarlet Knights blanked Massachusetts in their last game of the weekend Sunday. Rutgers is spending Spring Break week in the Sunshine State, heading to Clearwater for the Spring Break Tournament at USF beginning Friday.
