MIAMI (April 12, 2016) -- FIU softball sees its last midweek action of the season in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Bethune-Cookman Wednesday afternoon at Sunnyland Park in Daytona Beach. The games represent the start of an 11-game road swing, through the rest of April and ending May 1.
Â
FIU is 21-20 overall, while the Wildcats are 11-26, coming off a three-game sweep over conference foe North Carolina Central.
Â
The Panthers are looking to re-establish a win streak after three close losses over the weekend to Florida Atlantic. The team's earned run average went down, despite the losses, to 3.06, sitting third in Conference USA.
Â
Still the league's top-hitting team (.322 batting average), the Panthers head to Daytona, where they are 2-2 all-time against B-CU. In the all-time series, FIU owns a 14-3 mark, winning the last six in the series.
Â
The two programs played three times during an FIU home tournament last year, with the Panthers winning by a combined 23-7 score. The programs were coming off a five-year hiatus without playing one another prior to that series.
Â
The Wildcats have won their last six MEAC games, but have dropped their last five non-conference games of the season. These two games represent the final two home games of the year for B-CU.
Â
FIU will complete the five-game week by next traveling to Birmingham to face C-USA opponent UAB, starting with a Saturday doubleheader at 2 p.m. Eastern.
