MIAMI (Aug. 25, 2016) -- FIU women's soccer fought through a thunderstorm delay for the second-straight game and fell 4-0 at home to Wake Forest in the home opener at the FIU Soccer Stadium Thursday night in non-conference action. Wake Forest, which received votes in this week's NSCAA week-one poll for the first time in two seasons, improves to 3-0. FIU falls to 0-2-1 for the season.
Â
The start of the game was delayed 35 minutes due to thunderstorms in the area, then was halted at the 71:11 mark when more storms came through and declared final at that point.
Â
The Demon Deacons posted three first-half goals by junior Maddie Huster. She now has four goals on the season. Huster also assisted on the goal in the second half for her seventh point of the storm-shortened night. Bayley Feist headed in the service from Huster for the final scoring play.
Â
The Panthers were outshot 17-4, with two shots on goal, both saved by Wake keepers Lindsay Preston and Nonie Frishette. FIU keeper
Sophia Trujillo (Miami, Florida / Gulliver Prep) made four saves in the contest.
Â
FIU will have the weekend off from competition and takes the field next Thursday in a road contest at FGCU, starting at 7 p.m.
