Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls By One Goal at FGCU

FORT MYERS, Florida (Sept. 1, 2016) -- FIU played its third-consecutive game in driving rain, and held tough again on the road, but a lone goal in the 80th minute by Tabby Tindall was the difference in the 1-0 Panthers' loss at FGCU Thursday night at the FGCU Soccer Complex. Two of the three Panthers' losses (0-3-1) were by one goal within the final 11 minutes of the contest's end. FGU is 2-2 on the season.

Despite leading in shots, 6-3, at the half, the Eagles managed 12 shots to FIU's 10 total in the contest. Junior Paula Quintero (Doral, Florida / Ronald Reagan) had FIU's lone shot on goal.

"I think we are learning more from each game," said Quintero of her team's close results. "We take the mistakes that we make and grow from them so we're not making the same ones every single time. Overall I am confident that if every single team member, whether on the bench or on the pitch, shows their commitment and passion for the team, we will turn these scores into wins. I believe we are capable, we just have to be on the same page and give it our all by winning our individual battles and being aggressive for the whole 90 minutes."

Senior keeper Sophia Trujillo (Miami, Florida / Gulliver Prep) collected six saves, tying her second-highest total of the season.

The game was a stalemate until two passes lined up Tindell for the shot along the touchline for the tricky goal.

FIU was aggressive on offense, creating seven corner kicks in the attacking third, but most of the shot attempts were just wide of target.

FIU returns home for Parents and Alumnae Weekend, when the Panthers battle Miami (Ohio) at noon. The game was part of a doubleheader with the men's program at the FIU Soccer Complex.
