@FIUVolleyball Falls to Coastal Carolina in Season Opener

MIAMI (August 26, 2016) – The FIU volleyball team (0-1) fell, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-11) to Coastal Carolina in the first match of the FIU Invite. The night was capped off with a record breaking performance by junior, Jennifer Ene, who moved up in the all-time solo blocking list, tying for fourth with 40.
 
The Panthers began the match with a 25-19 loss in the first set. FIU was led by senior, Katie Hogan with four kills on 11 attempts and added three digs. She would go on to finish the night with seven kills on 32 attempts. Redshirt freshman, Lina Bernier played in her first match since last year's season ending injury. Bernier finished the night with five kills on 22 attempts and led the team in digs with 11.
 
Coastal Carolina took the second set with a 25-20 victory. Freshman, Sidney Henderson led the way with four kills on eight attempts and one solo block. In her collegiate debut, Henderson finished the evening with five kills on 15 attempts, and a .267 hitting percentage.
 
The Chanticleers ran away with the third set to take the match after a 25-11 victory. The Panthers hit a -.029 percentage for the set and were out-hit .302 to .040 for the match.
 
The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow against in-town rival, Miami at 11:30 a.m. They will conclude the FIU Invite against Florida A&M at 7 p.m. on Lime Court at FIU Arena.
