Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second Season Shutout Friday for @FIUWSoccer at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Sept. 30, 2016) -- FIU women's soccer recorded its second shutout of the season, but could not score itself in a 0-0 draw at UAB Friday night after two overtimes at BBVA Compass Field in Conference USA action. The tie pushes the Panther mark to 1-7-2 overall, 0-2-1 in Conference USA. UAB is now 4-5-1 after their first tie of 2016, 1-1-1 in league action.

The tie was the second for the Panthers, playing their third overtime game of the season, after just two a year ago. The two ties on the season matches the total from the 2014 campaign.

FIU junior Courtney Phillips (Arlington, Texas) had the game's first two shots on goal, and the team had three at the half. Senior keeper Sophia Trujillo (Miami, Florida / Gulliver Prep) did not face a shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes of play.

FIU did not get a shot on goal in the second half, allowing two to the Blazers and led 3-2 in that category at the end of regulation in the defensive battle.

FIU had the only shot on goal in the first overtime, and senior Alyssa Robinson (Pembroke Pines, Florida / American Heritage HS) fired a shot that hit the crossbar for the most exciting play of the period.

Trujillo was credited with three saves in the game for her second shutout of the season and third of her career.

The Panthers continue their road trip with a 2 p.m. Eastern contest at Middle Tennessee Sunday.
