FIU Women’s Tennis Suffers First Loss of the Season; Falls to No. 1 Florida, 4-0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Jan. 29, 2017) – The FIU women's tennis team (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season, falling to the No. 1-ranked Florida Gators (2-0), 4-0, in the finals of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend Gainesville Regional on Sunday afternoon.
 
FIU fell behind early, dropping the doubles portion of the match as Mina Markovic and Gabriela Ferreira fell to Josie Kuhlman and Belinda Woolcock (No. 12 in the nation), 6-1, and Maryna Veksler and Ulyana Grib lost to Anna Danilia and Ingrid Neel, 6-2.
 
The Gators added to their score in singles play, as Markovic fell to Neel, 6-0, 6-2, Nagode dropped a 7-6, 6-1 decision to Brooke Austin and Grib was defeated by Kourtney Keegan (No. 24 in the nation), 7-5, 6-1, for the match-clinching point.   
 
FIU will next travel to Flushing Meadows, N.Y., to take on the St. John's Red Storm on Friday, Feb. 3.
