MIAMI (October 16, 2017) – The No. 14 FIU men's soccer team looks to extend its unbeaten streak to 12 matches on Tuesday when the Panthers end their road stretch at USF. First touch is slated for 7. p.m.
The Panthers come into the meeting against the Bulls with a 8-0-3 record and a 4-0-1 record in Conference USA. FIU defeated the Gamecocks, 5-2, in Columbia, South Carolina, on Oct. 14.
The Panthers, one of just three Division I men's soccer programs in the country without a loss, come into this week ranked in all four of the collegiate soccer major polls, including a No. 14 ranking in United Soccer Coaches poll from last week. FIU is ranked No. 15 by College Soccer News poll and No. 21 by TopDrawerSoccer.com poll. The Panthers were also ranked No. 20 by Soccer America last week; updated polls will be released on Tuesday.
FIU is currently fourth in the nation in win-loss-tie percentage (.864), and join No. 1 Indiana (12-0-2) and No. 3 Maryland (10-0-3) as the only teams without a blemish in the loss column. The last time the Panthers saw an unbeaten streak this long was 2002 when they went 13-straight matches without a loss. In addition, the Panthers are first in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 3.18 goals-per-game.
On the year,
Santiago Patino (Orlando, Fla. / Freedom) leads the team in points scored with 27 (12g, 3a) and goals with 12. Patino leads the nation in points-per-game (2.43) and is second in goals-per-game (1.09). He is also third and fourth in the nation in total goals and total points, respectively.
Alessandro Campoy (Miami, Fla. / Immaculata-LaSalle) trails with 13 points scored (5g, 2a); while Paul Marie (Saint Aubindes Bois, France) totals 12 after accumulating seven points scored in two games against FGCU and South Carolina last week.
In 10 matches played, goalkeeper
Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France) boasts a 7-0-3 record, tallying 33 saves. On the year, he has allowed only 12 goals, totaled 2.5 shutouts, and boasts a 0.733 save percentage.
USF comes into Tuesday's match with a 6-4-1 overall record and a 3-1 record in the American Athletic Conference. The Bulls were shutout 2-0 at home, by UConn on Saturday.
Following Tuesday's match, the Panthers will return home to face New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 21 and No. 18 Old Dominion on Wednesday, Oct. 25, for Senior Day.
