FIU Record: 3-1

The Basics

-        FIU lost its first dual meet of the season, to Rice 136.5-84.5, to begin the Dual-A-Pool-Ooza at Tulane University's Reily Natatorium Friday evening. Rice entered the week as the top-ranked squad in the Mid-Major poll at CollegeSwimming.com. FIU was third in that poll. The two-day event will feature three unique dual meets in three shortened programs in a 24-hour period.

-        FIU took the diving with sophomore Brooke Bouchard (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) scoring 265.25, freshman Rachel Foord (Mebourne, Australia) registering a 259.25 and senior Rebecca Quesnel (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) coming in third at 250.60 in the 3-meter springboard event.

-        The Panthers took only three of the 11 swimming events of that shortened program.

-        Senior Kyna Pereira (Umkomass, South Africa) was the first Panther to win an event, taking the 1,000 Free, at 10:06.65. Freshman teammate Stephanie Hussey (Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada) was third in that event.

-        Sophomore Carita Luukkanen (Lambere, France) got to the wall first in the 200 Breast, logging a time of 2:18.80.

-        Junior Naomi Ruele (Gaborone, Botswana) was first in the 50 Back, with a time of 26.15.

-        The Panthers were out-touched at the wall in the 400 Medley Relay to start the swimming events, and were just under a second behind in the 100 Free Relay to end the dual.

From the Pool Deck
"Rice was the better team today," said FIU Head Coach Randy Horner. "They are a good team that showed why they are ranked No. 1 in the Mid-Major rankings. We have a lot of work to do between now and February."
