The Basics
- The FIU women's soccer team closed out a three-match homestand on Thursday night with Louisiana Tech. Despite a scoreless tie at the half, the Lady Techsters posted two second-half goals to pull away from the Panthers, 2-0 in a Conference USA meeting. FIU drops to 1-8 on the year and 0-4 in C-USA, while LA Tech improves to 9-2-4 overall and 2-1-2 in league play.
- The first half proved to be a defensive struggle between the Panthers and Lady Techsters with each team recording five shots in the first 45 minutes of play, and FIU holding a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Courtney Phillips (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Timberview) had two of the Panthers's offerings on net.
- LA Tech finally broke through in the 53
rd minute. Off a set piece, from 23 yards out, the Lady Techsters' Olivia Millington fired a shot that caromed off the bottom of the crossbar and out. Mylen Roy-Ouellet played the deflection and looked to shoot, however her shot was blocked and Kailee Hervey came up with the loose ball to beat FIU goalkeeper
Nevena Stojakovic (Nis, Serbia).
- Just over six minutes later, Hannah McStay-Fenn dribbled the ball from left to right and let go with a shot from 19 yards out, finding the back of the net and giving LA Tech and 2-0 lead.
- Stojakovic finished the game with four saves on the night
- LA Tech finished the game outshooting the Panthers, 10-7, and a 5-2 margin in the second half.

After holding a 4-2 edge in shots on goal at the intermission, FIU was only had one of the five combined shots on goal in the second stanza.

FIU kicks off a four-match road stretch, beginning on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. when it visits Old Dominion. The Panthers will not return to the FIU Soccer Stadium until Oct. 22 when they face UTSA.
