Panthers Ready for First Road Test; Face Elon on Friday in Milwaukee

FIU looks to get back on the winning track in the first game of the Black & Gold Shootout

MIAMI (November 16, 2017) – The FIU men's basketball team hits the road for the first time during the 2017-18 season as it travels to the Black & Gold Shootout in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Nov. 17-19. The Panthers will open the three-day event against Elon on Nov. 17 (6:30 p.m. ET), before facing host Milwaukee on Nov. 18 (6:30 p.m. ET), and Concordia-St. Paul (CSP) on Nov. 19 (2 p.m. ET) to close out the weekend. Fans can watch the Elon and CSP games on YouTube, while Milwaukee game will be on ESPN3. Links can be found on the men's basketball schedule at FIUSports.com. Friday's meeting with the Phoenix marks the first of three games that FIU will play on the road in its next eight outings.
 
FIU comes into Friday's game with Elon on the heels of a tough 70-64 overtime loss to Stetson on Nov. 12, in Miami. Eric Lockett (Warner Robbins, Georgia) scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Trejon Jacob (Raleigh, North Carolina) and Brian Beard, Jr. (Rancho Cucamonga, California) chipped in with 15 points and 10 points, respectively. Jacob also grabbed a game- and career-high nine rebounds in the loss.

Anthony Evans begins his fifth season as head coach of the Panthers, and his 11th season overall as a head coach, at both Norfolk State and FIU.

SCOUTING ELON
Elon enters Friday's game with a 1-2 record following a 76-67 loss to Furman on Nov. 14, in Greenville, South Carolina ... Despite the loss, the Phoenix placed four players in double figures in the scoring column, led by Tyler Seibring's 15 points and Damian Swoops's 13 points ... Brian Dawkins and Steven Santa Ana added 12 and 10 points, respectively in the loss.

Elon began the season with games on consecutive nights, starting with Duke on Nov. 10, dropping a 97-68 decision in Durham ... The next night, the Phoenix picked up its first win of the 2017 campaign, defeating William Peace, 96-53.

THE SERIES VS. THE PHOENIX
Last season's game with between FIU and Elon marked the second meeting all-time between the two schools, with the Panthers dropping a tough 84-81 overtime loss in North Carolina ...The Phoenix leads the all-time series 2-0.

UP NEXT FOR FIU
Following Friday's game with Elon, FIU will butt heads with the host Milwaukee Panthers on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET during the second day of the Black & Gold Shootout ... The contest will be aired on ESPN3 ... FIU will close out the Shootout on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. ET when it takes on Concordia-St. Paul ...
