Records: FIU 1-3, USAFA 0-4.
Sunday, November 19 | 2 p.m. | Miami | Ocean Bank Convocation Center

The Basics

-        In the first meeting between the programs since 1985, FIU settled a 32-year debt with a 70-69 win over the United States Air Force Academy Sunday at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center in women's college basketball action. FIU is now 1-3, while the Falcons drop to 0-4.

-        Despite a furious fourth-quarter comeback, FIU was able to hold on thanks to a stout third quarter, when the Panthers outscored Air Force 17-9 and outshot the Falcons .421 to .100 in the period.

-        After hitting the first bucket of the game, a jumper by freshman Callie Cavanaugh (Holyoke, Massachusetts), the Falcons reeled off the next 11 points and led by as many as 10 at the midway point of the period.

-        FIU fought back to the lead by the end of the quarter, 19-18. The Panthers hit four of the last five shots of the period, part of an 8-for-10 shooting streak from the field that lasted until 6:33 remaining in the half. The Panthers shot .500 in the first and .519 for the first half.

-        The Panthers put together their best quarter after halftime, holding Air Force without a field goal over a more than eight-minute stretch to extend the lead to nine at the end of three.

-        Air Force stormed back to tie the game in the fourth, scoring 17 of the first 25 points in the period to tie the game at 65. There were four ties and three lead changes in the final period.

-        FIU junior Kristian Hudson (Birmingham, Alabama) tied her season high with 23 points and was one rebound short of her fourth-career double-double, with nine boards.

-        Redshirt junior Kiandre'a Pound (Gifford, Florida / Sebastian River HS) added a season-high 18 points and also had nine rebounds. She shot a season-best .700 (7-for-10) from the field.

-        Sophomore Kayla Rogers (Jacksonville, Florida / Jean Ribault HS) tied her career-high total with seven assists.

Stat of the Match
FIU was dominant in the paint (42-24) and for the first time this season, held an opponent under 40 percent shooting (.343).

From the Sideline
"When things were going well for us, it was because we were sharing the ball," said FIU Head Coach Tiara Malcom. "I was proud of how resilient our team was today."

From the Floor
"I am happy for the effort that the whole team put up today," said Hudson after the game. "It was a game of runs, and we were able to run and put pressure on their defense. Rebounding is the thing we have talked about a lot around here and we made a conscious effort to do more of that."

Next Up
FIU hosts the FIU Thanksgiving Tournament next weekend, with two games Saturday and Sunday. The Panthers will take on Alabama A&M to start the weekend, with a noon tipoff Saturday. Charleston Southern and Hartford hit the floor at approximately 2 p.m.
