@FIUWBB Shares The Ball in 77-70 Home Win Sunday

Game Details
FIU 77, Charleston Southern 70
Records: FIU 2-4, CSU 2-3.
Sunday, November 26 | 2 p.m. | Miami | Ocean Bank Convocation Center

The Basics

-        FIU quickly forgot an off-shooting game and responded Sunday with a 77-70 win over Charleston Southern in the final game of the FIU Women's Basketball Thanksgiving Tournament Sunday at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.

-        The Panthers hit on seven of their first 10 attempts from the field, including their first two three-point tries. FIU outshot the Bucs .583 to .278 in the opening period. Freshman Lauryn Snipes (Wellington, Kansas) had seven of the Panthers' nine points in the game.

-        FIU held CSU without a field goal for six full minutes of game time from the last minute of the first to the midway point of the second quarter, putting together a 7-0 run in that span. The Panthers led CSU 30-25 at the half.

-        Charleston Southern was the better team in the third quarter, scoring 13 of the first 18 points in the period to take the lead at the midway point. The lead changed four times in the final five minutes of the quarter.

-        The lead changed six more times in the fourth period, the last time on the first of three three-point field goals from sophomore Alexis Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida / Covenant Christian) in the frame. She finished with 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting from long range.

-        Redshirt junior Kiandre'a Pound (Gifford, Florida / Sebastian River HS) produced her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. She was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

-        A season-high five Panthers finished with double digits in scoring. Freshman Shante Walker (West Park, Florida / South Broward) had her first-career double-double with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Snipes had 11 points and seven rebounds, both career-high totals.

-        FIU finished at .419 shooting from the field, including a .500 mark (6-for-12) from three-point range.

Stat of the Game
FIU gathered a season-high 52 rebounds in the contest. That is the team's highest rebound total since recording 53 in a win over Wofford on December 21, 2014.

From the Sideline
"I thought we did a good job of being resilient, playing through mistakes and listening to what we wanted to do in pressure situations," said FIU Head Coach Tiara Malcom. "It took a team effort and everyone in the game did what they needed to do. Today, we played hard and dove on the floor for the ball. When we play hard, good things tend to happen. Charleston Southern hit a bunch of shots, but it was how we responded when they scored that was important for us."

From the Floor

"We were getting on the floor for the ball and coach put an emphasis for us to rebound when we were on defense and she said it would lead to points, which it did," said Pound after the game. "I started slow, but my teammates kept picking me up and encouraging me and it got me to a place where I could play harder and produce for my team."
