Women's Basketball

Road Trip Continues for @FIUWBB at Howard Saturday

WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 1, 2017) -- FIU women's basketball continues its road trip to the D.C. area with a Saturday afternoon tilt at Howard. The game tips at 2 p.m. at historic Burr Gymnasium. FIU is 2-5 on the season, while the Bison are 1-5.

FIU and Howard have played three previous times, all FIU wins, meeting last in 1998. The teams have had trouble rebounding versus opponents this year, both with a negative rebounding margin over 10 per game. The Bison are blocking shots at an incredible rate, nearly five per game (55th in the NCAA), but their assist-to-turnover ratio is less than .500 this season. FIU has scored 70 points in both wins this season.

On Wednesday, the Panthers saw freshman Shante Walker score her first 20-point game, but after a 31-all halftime score, FIU shot .286 in the second half and fell 77-56 at Georgetown to start this mid-Atlantic road trip.

The Bison got their first win of the season, thanks to a 19-7 second quarter that got Howard a 38-20 halftime lead. Despite allowing Fairleigh-Dickinson to score 29 in the fourth, the Bison held on for the three-point win, 68-65. Howard had a season-high 16 assists in the Tuesday win.
