MIAMI (Dec. 29, 2017) -- FIU women's basketball finishes the 2017 calendar year at home against Vermont, on Saturday at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. The first-ever meeting between the programs tips off at 1 p.m.
 
FIU is 2-10 coming off of six-straight losses, the last two by a combined five points. The Panthers are in the midst of a six-game home stand, the last two of which will be next week to start Conference USA play.
 
Junior Kristian Hudson (Birmingham, Alabama) has scored 27 points in both of the Panthers' last two games. That is a season-high total for any member of the team, and her career-high for a game not going into overtime. She captured her second double-double of the season by adding 10 rebounds in last Thursday's two-point loss to Clemson. Not only was she named to the All-Tournament Team of the FIU Holiday Tournament, but she won her second-career Conference USA Player of the Week award for her efforts.
 
Vermont enters at 3-9, winning last Thursday, December 21^st to snap a seven-game losing slide. The Catamounts held visiting Central Connecticut State to nine points in the second quarter to pull out a 62-48 home win in that previous contest. Vermont blocked a season-high 11 shots in the game.
 
Interestingly, the Catamounts and Panthers have two common opponents, with both losing to Miami (Florida) in the same weekend, the Panthers by eight to start the season and Vermont by 24 two days later. Vermont beat Howard by 23 in Burlington, but the Panthers lost by seven in D.C. to start the month of December.
