FORT MYERS, Fla. (February 25, 2017) — A two-RBI triple by redshirt senior
Dani Mowry (Cocoa, Florida / Space Coast HS) was all of the offense that FIU needed in a 2-1 defeat of Boston College Saturday in day two of the FGCU / Four Point Invitational Softball Tournament. FIU has won two in a row and stands at 10-4 overall.
In the bottom of the first, the Eagles drew a leadoff walk off of sophomore pitcher
Abby Summers (Weston, Missouri). Later, a two-out RBI single to center scored the runner and put the Eagles up 1-0. BC had only one other hit in the game.
The Panthers took the lead on the biggest hit of the game in the fourth. Sophomore
Jackie Schoff (Bradenton, Florida / Lakewood Ranch HS) singled to start the inning. Senior
Stephanie Texeira (Miami, Florida / Gulliver Prep) replaced her at first after a fielder's choice. Junior
Kasandra Castle (Lake Worth, Florida / Palm Beach Central) singled on the infield to the shortstop before Mowry's triple to deep right cleared the bases for the lead.
Summers retired the next six batters to stop the Eagles.
She improves to 4-0 after tossing six innings. She allowed just two hits and four walks, with the run charged to her, with four strikeouts. Sophomore
Megan Kugelmann (Merritt Island, Fla. / Cocoa Beach HS) recorded her first save of the year after retiring all three batters she faced in the seventh.
