No. 24 FIU Women’s Tennis Looks to Make it 11-Straight; Hosts Georgia Southern on Wednesday

MIAMI (March 14, 2017) – Riding a 10-match winning streak, the FIU women's tennis team (12-1) hosts the Georgia Southern Eagles (9-3) on Wednesday, March 15, from the FIU Tennis Courts.
 
First serve is set for 1:00 p.m., and admission is free to the public.
 
FIU picked up three wins this past week, including a pair of shutout victories, defeating Boston University, 7-0, on Friday, March 10, and downing then-No. 49 VCU, 4-0, on Sunday, March 12.
 
Georgia Southern comes into Wednesday's match having won four of its last five matches. The Eagles are coming off a 7-0 loss at Florida Gulf Coast on Monday, March 13. This week will mark the third meeting all-time between the two schools with the Panthers holding a 2-0 edge in the series history.
 
Four Panthers have registered 15-or-more wins in singles play this season, led by Maryna Veksler, who has posted a 17-4 mark. Andrea Lazaro, Mina Markovic and Ulyana Grib have each registered 15 wins this season. Lazaro, who is currently ranked No. 28 in the latest Oracle/ITA Women's Tennis Individual Rankings, is 9-1 at the No. 1 position this season and has increased her career mark in dual matches to 26-2.
