The Basics
- FIU won their first two sets of the season and looked like a first win was a certainty, but a feisty IUPUI squad roared back and won in five sets (13-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-10) over FIU Saturday in the Panthers' final match of the FGCU / Hilton Garden Inn Invitational in Fort Myers.
- The 25-13 opening-set win was the largest margin of victory for FIU in a set since 9/2/16 against Florida A&M.
- FIU has played a five-set match four times in the last seven contests dating back to the end of the 2016 season.
- FIU had the fourth set tied at 20 and the fifth set tied at nine in the five-set thriller, which featured 23 tie scores and nine lead changes. There were three lead changes in the fifth set.
- Panthers freshman setter Molly Feldmeth (South Pasadena, California) recorded the first triple-double of the season for FIU, recording 10 kills, 15 digs and 46 assists.
- Junior Margherita Bianchin (Treviso, Italy) had her second double-double of the season with 14 kills and the team-high total of 22 digs.
Stat of the Match
The Panthers outscored the Jaguars 100-92 in total points due to the lopsided first-set outcome. IUPUI outblocked FIU 14-5, but the Panthers recorded nine service aces to the Jaguars' two.
Next Up
FIU heads to Nashville, Tennessee for a weekend tournament at Tennessee State, starting next Friday against Alcorn State at 4 p.m.
