The Basics
  • The FIU women's soccer team got back on the pitch on Sunday for the first time since Sept. 3, due to Hurricane Irma, as the Panthers traveled to Charlotte to face the 49ers in a Conference USA match-up. Charlotte handed FIU 3-0 loss, dropping the Panthers to 1-5 on the year and 0-1 in C-USA play. The 49ers are 7-3 overall and 2-0 in C-USA.
     
  • Charlotte controlled the match from the beginning outshooting FIU 23-6 during the afternoon, including 13-2 in the opening half of play.
     
  • Megan Greene got Charlotte on the board first, in the 34th minute, off a rebound shot for her seventh goal of the season. Julia Grainda then struck six minutes later off a deflection inside the box. Jamie Fankhauser rounded out the day's scoring, in the 66th minute on a putback off a corner kick.
     
  • Isabella de Almagro (Pembroke Pines, Fla./American Heritage) led the team with two shots and two shots on goal.
     
  • Nevena Stojakovic (Nis, Serbia) had six saves in the loss

In addition to its advantage over FIU in shots, Charlotte also held the upper hand in shots on goal, 10-5.

Up Next
The Panthers return to Miami for their longest homestand of the season, three games, beginning on Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. against UAB. FIU will also play Middle Tennessee on Oct. 1 at 12 p.m., and Louisiana Tech on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. during the home stretch.
