Â
The Basics
-Â Â Â Â The FIU men's soccer team extend their unbeaten streak to seven matches, shutting out North Florida 5-0 at home on Tuesday night. FIU produced a pair of two-assist performers on the night, by sophomores
Joris Ahlinvi (Gujan-Mestras, France) and
Alessandro Campoy (Port au Prince, Haiti) who also recorded a goal. FIU scored goals in bunches tonight with the first two coming in the first seven minutes of the contest and the last two coming in a span of nearly a minute, early in the second half. The Panthers improve to 4-0-3 on the year. The Ospreys drop to 1-6-1.
Â
-Â Â Â Â For the second match in a row, the Panthers find the scoreboard first in the opening minute of the game. Ahlinvi sent a hard shot from 15-yards out, rebounding off an Osprey defender which was collected by senior
Deshawon Nembhard (Dallas, Texas / SMU) who fired in the goal in the first 44 seconds. It was a career-first goal and assist for Nembhard and Ahlinvi, respectively.
Â
-Â Â Â Â Nearly six minutes later, junior
Santiago Patino (Orlando, Fla. / Freedom H.S.) found the back of the net for the seventh time this season in as many games played. Campoy struck a hard shot at the upper, right corner of the net sending the Osprey goalkeeper into a leaping save. The ball rebounded off the keeper's hand and set up Patino for the strike.Â
Â
-Â Â Â Â In the 35th minute, FIU was fouled within the box. Ahlinvi was successful in his penalty kick and extended the Panther's lead to 3-0.
Â
-Â Â Â Â The second half saw a pair of goals only a minute apart. Campoy sent a cross which connected with senior
Luca Giovine (Roselle, Ill. / Lake Park H.S.) to score into the lower, right corner. It was Giovine's first of the season. Nearly a minute later, Campoy broke away to record the Panther's fifth goal of the night and finalize the score at 5-0.
Â
-Â Â Â Â Junior
Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France) tallied three saves on the night, all of which came in the first half. He improves to 3-0-3. Redshirt-sophomore
Daniel Gagliardi (Plantation, Fla. / St. Thomas Aquinas H.S.) came in in the 66th minute and junior
Pasquale Giovine (Roselle, Fla. / Lake Park H.S.) made his career debut at the end of the second half, closing out the shutout win.
Â
Stat of the Game
-Â Â Â Â Campoy nearly doubled his season-points scored tonight with four. He now totals nine and is second on the team, behind Patino with 16.
Â
From the Sideline
"We took care of what we needed to do. The guys stuck to the game plan. Is it better than any other performance? I don't know, but as far as tonight, it was what was needed and the guys executed it. Really happy with how things went with all the guys that stepped on the field tonight." - FIU Head CoachÂ
Kevin Nylen
