The Basics
- The FIU men's soccer team headed north on Interstate 95 to Boca Raton where it faced Conference USA rival Florida Atlantic in a late morning match at FAU Soccer Stadium. The Panthers weren't such gracious guests as they handed the host Owls a 4-1 loss. FIU, who remains unbeaten, improves to 5-0-3 and 2-0-1 in C-USA, while FAU drops to 1-6 on the year and 1-3 in league play. The Panthers' meeting with the Owls was the first of five matches on the road that they will play in their final seven matches of the season.
Â

Patino, one of the hottest players in collegiate soccer, tallied the first goal of the game from 15 yards out in the ninth minute off a pass from
Joris Ahlinvi (Gujan-Mestras, France). That was the only goal of the first half. Through the match with FAU, Patino has 20 points on the year (9g, 2a).
Â
- FIU then recorded three second-half goals: by
Paul Marie (Saint Aubindes Bois, France) on a penalty kick in the 59
th minute, Patino's second of the morning on an assist from Marie in the 60
th minute, and from
Alvaro Alvarez (Asunción, Paraguay) in the 71
st-minute play. Oscar Salas netted the Owls' lone goal of the contest with just over 11 minutes left to play.
Â
- The Panthers held a 13-9 shot advantage, and recorded seven of the 11 shots on goal in the match.
Â
- FIU goalkeeper
Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France) had three saves in the contest. With the win, Fauroux improves to 4-0-3 on the year.
Â
Stat of the Game
- FIU held only a three-shot advantage in the first half (4-1) and netted just one goal. In the second stanza, the Panthers had just one more shot than the Owls (9-8) but put up three goals in the final 45 minutes of play.
Quotable
"Today was massive, another three points against a tough opponent. I'm disappointed we conceded late in the game, but we took another step in the right direction. Now we focus our attention to a good week of training in preparation for a tough conference game against Marshall."
