MIAMI (January 17, 2018) -- FIU puts its first home winning streak of the season on the line Thursday morning, when the Panthers women's basketball program hosts LA Tech at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. The game, available on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN App, will tip at noon Eastern. It is Education Day, with a pregame STEM Expo for 2,000 elementary and middle school students. Those activities will still begin at 9 a.m.
Â
The FIU College of Engineering is bringing 10 groups of students with a wide array of engaging display booths, including aerospace, computer science and motorsports, to name a few.
Â
At halftime, the K9's In-Flight Frisbee Dog Entertainment Show will take place on the arena floor.
Â
After losses last Thursday, both LA Tech and FIU won the Saturday game of the C-USA weekend on January 13, FIU by 10 and LA Tech by nine. The Panthers have never beaten the Lady Techsters, including an 0-6 home mark in the series. The Panthers lost by two in Ruston in 2014, and a seven-point loss in 2001 is the closest home score for FIU in the series.Â
Â
FIU shot its highest percentage from the floor, .529, in a 68-58 win over Rice last Saturday. FIU built its first home win streak, while stopping Rice's eight-game winning streak, by holding the Owls to a season-worst .269 shooting mark. Lexi Gordon hit six threes and led FIU with 22 points.
Kiandre'a Pound had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Â
The Lady Techsters got 20 points from Alexus Malone and forced 22 turnovers for a 74-65 win at Marshall Saturday. LA Tech started the season quarter on a 12-0 run, and ended the third with a 13-5 run to gather the victory. LA Tech was also 19-for-22 from the free-throw line (.864).
Â
The game is part of a day-night doubleheader with the men's program, as FIU hosts Old Dominion at 7 p.m. The K9's In-Flight Frisbee Dog Entertainment Show will return for the nightcap.
