The Basics
- FIU outshot and outrebounded host Marshall, but lost by three, 78-75, Sunday at the Cam Henderson Center in Conference USA women's basketball action. The loss drops the Panthers to 6-14 on the season, 3-4 in league play. FIU is now 0-6 on the road this season. Marshall got its first win in seven C-USA games, and sits at 7-13 overall.
- The Marshall victory avenges a 13-point loss to FIU in Miami back on January 7.
- In both meetings with the Thundering Herd, FIU got double-doubles from redshirt junior Kiandre'a Pound (Gifford, Florida / Sebastian River HS) and freshman Callie Cavanaugh (Holyoke, Massachusetts). Sunday, Pound finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, with Cavanaugh adding 11 points and 10 rebounds. Pound has a team-leading nine double-doubles this season, while Cavanaugh has those two.
- FIU came out hot to start the game, shooting .688 (11-for-16) in the opening period to take a nine-point lead into the second quarter. The Panthers bumped the lead up to 12 just 13 seconds into that frame on a Kristian Hudson (Birmingham, Alabama) three-point field goal.
- The game turned mid-way through the second, as Marshall outscored FIU 24-9 over the next 11 minutes to lead 59-53 with 3:57 to go in the third. FIU got the game tied at 68 with 5:48 remaining in regulation, but trailed after a jumper at the 5:17 mark and Marshall led the rest of the way.
- Hudson tied for the game-high lead with 24 points, her sixth time above 20 points this season.
- Guard Kayla Rogers (Jacksonville, Florida / Jean Ribault HS) added 14 points.
- FIU outshot Marshall in the game, .468 to .431, and outrebounded the Herd 40-33. With the loss, FIU's season mark slips to 6-3 when outshooting the opponent.

From the Sideline
"We were more disappointed than anything," said FIU Head Coach
Tiara Malcom. "The stats say we did everything we needed to do in order to win, but we have to clean up the things that are not on that sheet. We have to go get 50/50 balls, make extra effort, finish plays on the defensive end and not take shots too quickly in a possession and take better shots. I am seeing improvement in our details, but we have to get better at our mindset from the time we board the plane to the time we get on the bus to go to the arena and the time the game starts. We have to out-execute a team when we are away from Miami."
