Game Details
Old Dominion 68, FIU 60
Records: FIU 6-15 (3-5 C-USA), ODU 5-18 (3-6 C-USA)
Friday, February 2 | 11 a.m. | Norfolk, Va. | Ted Constant Convocation Center

The Basics
  • Old Dominion hit early shots and FIU committed early turnovers in a 68-60 road loss at ODU in Conference USA women's basketball action. It was an Education Day game at the Ted Constant Convocation Center, with an 11 a.m. tip time.
  • The Monarchs improve to 5-18 on the season, 3-6 in Conference USA. FIU falls to 6-15 overall, 3-5 in C-USA.
  • Despite a 23-10 fourth-quarter rally, a 22-point ODU lead was too much to overcome for the Panthers, who fall to 0-7 on the road this season.
  • Sophomore Alexis Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida / Covenant Christian HS) scored 17 points and had a career-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. She was 5-for-8 from three-point range. It was her fourth time this season hitting five-or-more three-point field goals.
  • The Monarchs outshot and outrebounded FIU in the win, taking advantage of 16 FIU turnovers, with an 18-8 margin in points off turnovers.
  • FIU committed six turnovers and shot just 4-for-11 (.364) in the opening period to trail by 12, 23-11 after one. The Panthers never had the lead or tied the game.
  • ODU took advantage of nine first-half turnovers to score 14 points off of those miscues and lead by 18 at halftime, 43-25. The Panthers improved their shooting from the first to the second to finish the half at .409, but were outrebounded 18-12 at intermission.
  • The Monarchs came out sluggish in the third period, with FIU holding the home team scoreless for three minutes, but the Panthers were unable offensively to take advantage, only shaving the lead by two points.
  • FIU held ODU to just 1-for-9 shooting in the final period, with the Monarchs' eight made free throws enough to hold the lead. FIU got the game down to seven in the final minute.
  • Including a 13-6 final three minutes in favor of FIU, Old Dominion has been outscored 39-6 in the final three minutes combined in its last three contests.

Stat of the Game
FIU hit 22 of 28 free throws, including their last 14 of the game. It is the first time this calendar year, not since December 30, that the Panthers hit 20 free throws in a game. It was the third time this season with 20 made free throws.

From the Bench
"We started off very slowly, and that's basically how we played for the first three quarters of the game," said FIU Head Coach Tiara Malcom. "When you are on the road, you have to get going and play with a lead. I refer back to what I said after the Marshall game - you have to be ready from the start, even before the game. I will give credit to our team, that once we were able to get some stops, we got some offense going. It's just tough to play from behind on the road."

Next up for FIU
The Panthers will finish the road trip Sunday afternoon, with a 1 p.m. contest at Charlotte. THe game will live-streamed on ESPN3.
