 The Basics
- A pair of post players recorded double-doubles for FIU as the Panthers got their first Conference USA win of the season in a 67-54 home victory over Marshall in women's basketball action at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center Sunday. FIU is now 4-11 on the season, 1-1 in C-USA. Marshall slips to 6-9, and started 0-2 in its first conference weekend of the season.
- The starting forwards, redshirt junior Kiandre'a Pound (Gifford, Florida / Sebastian River HS) and freshman Callie Cavanaugh (Holyoke, Massachusetts) both recorded double-doubles, Pound's team-best sixth of the season and the first in the career of Cavanaugh. Pound set a career high with 19 rebounds to go with the team-high 21 points. Cavanaugh had a career-best 12 rebounds to go with a career-tying 12 points.
- FIU got its largest lead of the season, 23, with 2:11 to go in the third, but the Herd fought the game back down to single digits a few minutes into the fourth period. That made FIU fight for the win at home, after a 2-for-9 fourth quarter. The Panthers did hit their free throws in the last period, 8-for-10, and shot 13-for-16 from the charity stripe in the contest.
- FIU and Marshall had trouble scoring in the opening period, with both teams shooting in the mid-30 percent range. It was the second stanza when FIU was able to open things up, holding Marshall to just eight points in the period. The Herd hit just 1-for-13 from three-point range after two periods.
- The game was won with a combination of long-range shooting and creating easy layups on passing and penetration. FIU led 32-20 in points in the paint. FIU outscored Marshall 41-24 in the middle two quarters.
- Junior guard Kristian Hudson (Birmingham, Alabama) contributed in several phases, with seven points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
- The 19 rebounds by Pound are the most for a Panther since Brianna Wright grabbed 20 rebounds in a road win at UTSA on February 13, 2016.
- The 13-point margin of victory is the largest for the Panthers since a 16-point win over Florida A&M on November 13, 2015.

FIU had a season-high 56 rebounds, the most in a game in four years and one day, when grabbing 56 in a home game against Rice on January 8, 2014.
From the Sideline
"We had some moments when we were on top of it today," said FIU Head Coach Tiara Malcom. "We had a lot of players close to double figures in rebounds. We shared the ball and did a good job of attacking and I am proud of the way we played. Our guards did a good job of playing defense on the perimeter and the forwards were there to help and clean up."
From the Floor
"Today was fun," said Pound after the game. "Callie had her first double-double and the guards were also rebounding. We just wanted to go get the ball and score so we could get that win."
