MIAMI (Oct. 13, 2018) - The Gold team was victorious on Saturday afternoon, as the FIU swim and dive team hosted the Blue and Gold Alumni Intrasquad Meet at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
The meet, which serves as a competitive practice atmosphere, comes before FIU's trip to Denver, Colorado to Dual-A-Pool-Ooza. The Panthers are scheduled to compete against Denver, Tulane and Rice on Oct. 19-20.
"It was a great success, I had a great time with the alumni. The turnout was better than I expected and it was a fun experience," said head coach
Randy Horner.
The Gold team, coached by junior captain, Taylor Gabenhorst tallied a total of 99 points over 16 different events. Capturing a first-place finish in every race -- except for the 75 freestyle, 300 freestyle and 75 backstroke which were dominated by the Blue team.
After showing off on the 3-meter spring board, the five divers took their mark in the 25-yard freestyle event.
Brittany Haskell impressed with a first-place finish time of 13.87 and registered seven points for team Gold.
Alumni brought out their swim suits and caps and relived their past careers. Divers,
Rebecca Quesnel (2018) and
Laura Coronado (2018), turned heads from the 3-meter board. Quesnel, who closed out her FIU career as a 3-time NCAA qualifier and earned First-Team All-American honors displayed her talent as if she had never left the board.
