"The 41
st Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational is very important to us. Pat Bradley is coming in this year to speak at our banquet," FIU coach
Joseph Vogel said. "Our players know how important this event is and we are looking to come out on top."
The field includes 15 teams this year with FIU joined by Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, FCGU, Georgia State, Gonzaga, Jacksonville, McNeese State, Texas A&M-CC, UMKC, South Florida, Southern Miss, UTEP and Wyoming.
The Invitational, named for golfing legend and FIU's first All-American, is one of the longest-running collegiate golf events. Starting in 1977 at Hollywood Lakes Inn and Country Club, the event has been contested at 12 different venues before moving to Lakewood Ranch in 2012. The Invitational was not contested in 1992 due to the devastation of Hurricane Andrew in South Florida.
FIU leads all teams in the history of the tournament with 9 wins, including 2016, 2012 and 2011. Wyoming's Gabrielle Gibson was the individual champion last season. FIU's Michelle Simpson is the only four-time winner of the event, from 1997-2000.
The Panthers will use the same lineup that grabbed a Top-5 finish at the Johnnie Imes Invitational with
Valentina Gilly,
Carolina Andrade,
Agueda Cortilla,
Gabriela Powel and
Ana Maria Rengifo rounding out the rest of the FIU lineup.
The event will have live results posted at
Birdiefire.com for all three days and all 54 holes.
