Panthers and 49ers face off at 2 p.m. ET


MIAMI (Nov. 13, 2018) – FIU hits the road for the final time this regular season on Saturday, Nov. 17, as the Panthers travel to Charlotte seeking their program-tying eighth win of the season.
 
The Panthers and 49ers will kick off at 2 p.m. ET, with the game set to broadcast on ESPN 3.

CHARLOTTE PREVIEW 
Charlotte is 4-6 on the year, while losing its last two games to Tennessee and Marshall. The 49ers only lost to the Volunteers 14-3 in Knoxville two weeks ago. The 49ers have been led by their defense this season, sporting the nation's 14th best defense for yards allowed.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE 49ERS
FIU was down by as many as 19-points in the second half before Alex McGough led a furious comeback that was capped off by a Jose Borregales capped a 30-29 victory.
 
LAST TIME OUT
FIU messed with Texas by beating down the UTSA Roadrunners by a score of 45-7 last time out. James Morgan threw for three touchdowns to break Alex McGough's 2015 campaign of 21 passing touchdowns. Morgan has 24 TDs on the season. The Panthers' defense picked off the Roadrunners' QBs four times including Rocky Jacques-Louis' 32-yard pick six in the fourth quarter.

EARLY BOWLING FOR FIU
FIU won its sixth game against WKU on Oct. 27, marking the earliest that a Panther squad has become bowl eligible in program history. This is only the fourth time FIU has been bowl eligible and second-straight season under head coach Butch Davis
 
KING OF THE JUNGLE
If FIU wins on Saturday, Nov. 17, it will be the earliest FIU has earned eight wins in program history. The eight wins will also match the program's record total for a season, with eight coming in 2017 and 2011.

LATE-GAME PANTHERS
Over the course of the 2018 season, the Panthers have outscored foes 83-55 in fourth quarter. During the first seven games, the Panthers had not allowed a fourth quarter touchdown since the 2017 bowl game. Furthermore, if the Panthers hold a lead heading into the fourth quarter, FIU is 6-0 this season.

MOVING THE CHAINS
FIU has moved the chains on third downs this season, converting 65-of-136 attempts to earn a 47.8% conversion rate. That total ranks first in the C-USA and 11th in the nation.
 
BACK TO THE FIELD
Anthony Jones and Mershawn Miller were both back in action against UTSA on Saturday, Nov. 10 after the two were victims of a drive-by shooting on Sept. 6. Jones missed seven games of play, before returning against FAU, while Miller missed eight games prior to his return against UTSA.
 
Jones has earned 54 yards on 15 carries and 20 yards on four receptions since coming back, while Miller played in the fourth quarter of the UTSA game at left guard.
 
Jones rushed for 31 yards on eight carries against the Owls in his return to the football field. The running back rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns against Indiana, a week before being sidelined due to injuries from a gunshot wounds.

THROW IT TO WORTON
Redshirt junior CJ Worton has been highly productive this season, catching 31 passes for 592 yards. Worton averages 19.1 yards per catch, which ranks fourth in the league.

LEWIS AMONG NATION'S BEST
Redshirt junior Sage Lewis has earned 106 tackles this season, averaging 10.6 tackles per contest. That total ranks first in the C-USA and 16th in the nation.

UP THE CHARTS
James Morgan has thrown 24 touchdowns this season, which is the most in a single season at FIU. Morgan threw three touchdown passes against UTSA last time out to break the record, which was previously held by Alex McGough and set in 2015.
 
Morgan is just 404 yards shy of breaking Alex McGough's single-season passing yard record as well that was also set in 2015. Morgan's 2,319 yards ranks eighth overall at FIU currently.

GOLDEN YEAR
Graduate transfer James Morgan has had a great year for FIU this season, ranking among the top of most C-USA passing categories.
