The Basics
- The FIU volleyball team's Cinderella run in the 2018 Air Force Reserve Conference USA Volleyball Championship came to a close on Sunday with a 3-0 loss to the regular season champion and top-seeded Rice Owls in the championship match at Marshall University's Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, West Virginia. The Panthers drop to 19-12 on the year. The Owls, who earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, improves to 24-6.
 
- Trailing in the match, 2-0, the Panthers held a 24-22 lead, one-point from extending the contest to a fourth set. The Owls, however, scored four of the final six points of the match for the victory. 
 
- On the afternoon, FIU posted a .215 hitting percentage compared to .315 for Rice.
 
- Margherita Bianchin (Venice, Italy), Nina Petranovic (Polzela, Slovenia) and Ronja Klinger (Frauental, Austria) all recorded 10 kills on the afternoon, while Abbie Hughes (Mason, Ohio) had 28 assists and Lina Bernier (San Juan, Puerto Rico) had 15 digs.
