MIAMI (February 16, 2018) – FIU women's basketball will honor a pair of seniors Saturday prior to their final home game of the 2017-18 season when Florida Atlantic visits Ocean Bank Convocation Center for a Conference USA matchup. The game tips at 2 p.m. with a pregame ceremony for seniors
Kiandre'a Pound (Gifford, Florida / Sebastian River HS) and
Quira Demery (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma).
The Panthers will face Florida Atlantic for its next two contests, at home Saturday and in Boca Raton on February 25. The programs meet for the 42
nd time in the series Saturday, with the Panthers holding a 31-10 edge. FIU won both meetings last season, including a 65-60 road win on January 26. FIU is 15-4 against the Owls in Miami, while 16-5 on the road in the series, with just two conference tournament meetings, in Louisiana back in 1996 and at home in 1998.
FIU is 6-19 on the season, with a 3-9 C-USA record, while the Owls are 10-12 overall, 1.5 games ahead in the league standings, at 4-7. Both teams lost on the road on Wednesday night.
The Panthers led for the entire second half Wednesday at UTSA, but the Roadrunners came back with 95 seconds to go to win, 69-66. Junior
Kristian Hudson (Birmingham, Alabama) put up 23 points, six assists and five rebounds in the loss. Sophomore Kalya Rogers (Jacksonville, Florida / Jean Ribault HS) added 13 point, with freshman
Shante Walker (West Park, Florida / South Broward) scoring 10 points. For the second-straight game, FIU outshot the opponent and still lost, posting a .375 shooting mark, while holding UTSA to .359 shooting.
FAU lost in similar fashion Wednesday night at Old Dominion, leading until the 8:17 mark in the fourth in a 59-54 road loss. Raven Doyle scored 18 and Sasha Cedeno added 12 and nine rebounds for the Owls. The Owls outshot the Monarchs .375 to .365 in the loss. Old Dominion hit eight three-point field goals, six in the final half, for the win.
The Panthers will finish the season with three-straight road games to complete the regular season.
