MIAMI (Feb. 24) – The FIU women's tennis team (6-1) defeated Marshall (0-9), 4-0, on Saturday, February 24 in Denton, Texas.
FIU did not waste time and won the doubles point. The duo of
Maryna Veksler and
Ulyana Grib, currently No.7 in the Oracle/ITA National Doubles Rankings, won over Marshall's Stephanie Smith and Maddie Silver, 6-3. Seniors
Andrea Lazaro and
Nerma Caluk topped Marshall's Ana Marhuenda and Brooke Lashway, 6-0.
After doubles play, FIU won three straight points in singles play. Lazaro, currently ranked No. 2 in the Oracle/ITA National Singles Rankings, defeated Smith 6-4, 7-5. Veksler won against Marija Bojicevic, 6-0, 6-2. Grib clinched the match for the Panthers and topped Silver, 7-5, 6-3, improving her record to 11-4 overall and 5-2 in dual matches.
The Panthers will next face Michigan State (7-2) on
Saturday, March 3. First serve is set for
1 p.m. in Fort Myers, Fla.
