CHARLOTTE (February 3, 2018) – FIU completes a three-game road trip Sunday, with a 1 p.m. tipoff at Charlotte in Conference USA women's basketball action from the Dale F. Halton Arena. The game will be streamed on ESPN3 and WatchESPN. Both teams have won two of their last five C-USA contests, with FIU sitting at 6-15 overall, 3-5 in C-USA. The 49ers are 8-13 overall, 4-4 in league play.
The two programs have met five times, with the Panthers winning a non-conference tilt in Miami back in 2002. All four meetings as league foes have gone to Charlotte, twice at each home city. FIU is 0-2 in the Queen City.
The Panthers sit alone in 10
th place in the league standings, one game behind three teams tied for seventh, including Charlotte. Six of the 14 teams in Conference USA are within one game of the .500 mark.
FIU never led in a Friday morning game at Old Dominion, but closed a 21-point deficit down to as little as six in the fourth quarter in Norfolk for Education Day. FIU saw sophomore guard
Alexis Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida / Covenant Christian) secure the first double-double of her career, with 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Gordon finished 5-for-8 from three-point range, the fourth time this season she has hit at least five three-point field goals. FIU suffered its second-worst shooting performance (.364) of the Conference USA slate in 2018. The loss was the third in a row for the Panthers. FIU is 0-7 on the road this season, the last road win coming on February 13, 2016, at UTSA.
Charlotte trailed by one at halftime to Marshall on Friday night, but pulled out a six-point home win over the Thundering Herd, 67-61. Four 49ers scored in double-figures, led by Amaya Ransom's 16 points. Charlotte was outshot by Marshall from the field, and specifically behind the three-point line, with the Herd connecting on 11 treys. Charlotte won the rebounding battle, 38-23, and an 11-4 offensive rebounding edge led to an 11-4 second-chance points margin, enough for the win.
