#Play4Kay Night Thursday Features @FIUWBB Hosting North Texas

MIAMI (February 7, 2018) – FIU plays a two-game weekend homestand starting Thursday night in the annual Play4Kay Game, as the Panthers will host North Texas. Tipoff for the Conference USA women's basketball contest, is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. The Panthers' annual Play4Kay game raises awareness for breast cancer research towards finding a cure.
 
FIU and UNT meet for the 22nd time, with the Mean Green holding a slim, 11-10 margin in the all-time series. North Texas has won the last four in a row in the series. The Mean Green won by 20, 69-49, in Denton, Texas, on February 11, 2017.
 
FIU and North Texas are one game apart in the Conference USA standings, with FIU sitting at 3-6 in the league, while the Mean Green are 2-7 in C-USA. FIU is 6-16 overall, while UNT is 11-10 for the season. UNT has lost five in a row, while FIU has dropped its last four. All six 2017-18 FIU wins have been in the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
 
An 8-0 run in the in the first quarter put FIU up early, leading by two points at the end of the first quarter in the last game, Sunday at Charlotte. The 49ers shot .313 in the first quarter, but .628 the rest of the way to win by 23, 80-57. Sophomore Alexis Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida / Covenant Christian) scored 24 points to lead the way for FIU. Redshirt junior Kiandre'a Pound (Gifford, Florida / Sebastian River HS) scored nine points and collected seven rebounds.
 
UTSA hit three three-point field goals in the opening quarter and led 19-14, eventually winning by a dozen points, 70-58. The Roadrunners hit 22 free throws on 33 attempts and missed only one three-pointer (6-for-7) as the programs both finished the game at 2-7 league records. North Texas' Terriell Bradley finished with 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the team. She was 6-for-17 (.353) in the contest.
