The Basics
  • FIU held its annual Play4Kay night Thursday, falling to North Texas 92-46 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center in Conference USA women's hoops action.
  • FIU drops to 6-17 on the season, 3-7 in C-USA. The Mean Green are at 12-10, also 3-7 in league play.
  • The Panthers made good passes and took open shots, but they would not fall, with a 3-for-16 first-quarter shooting slump (.188), allowing the Mean Green to get an early 25-8 lead after one.
  • North Texas shot .714 (10-for-14) in the first quarter and .576 in the first half, while the Panthers were held to single-digits in each quarter in the scoring column. The Panthers were unable to get the score back even after the first.
  • FIU was led by junior Kristian Hudson (Birmingham, Alabama), who scored 15 points. She added four assists and two rebounds.
  • For the second time this season, freshman Shante Walker (West Park, Florida / South Broward) had a double-digit rebounding night, pulling down 10.

Stat of the Game
Freshman TaMiracle Taylor (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida / Ft. Lauderdale HS) scored a season-high seven points in the contest.

From the Bench
"If you are a competitor, you have to compete," said FIU Head Coach Tiara Malcom. "It doesn't matter what is going on around you, as a player you have to make things happen. I was pleased with the way some of our young players played in spots. We have to clean up some things and get some shots up and work on ourselves before the game on Saturday."

Next up for FIU
The Panthers finish the weekend homestand Saturday, with a 2 p.m. contest against Middle Tennessee. The game will air on BeIN Connect.
