UTEP defeated FIU, 86-70, Thursday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.
The Miners improved to 15-13 overall, 6-9 in Conference USA play. The Panthers dropped to 7-21 and 4-11 in league play.
FIU trailed by 17 points with 13 seconds left in the third quarter. However, the Panthers went on a 24-10 run to start the fourth quarter and cut the Miners lead to just three points at, 73-70, with 4:05 left in the game.
Kayla Rogers scored nine points during the run to fuel FIU.
But FIU was held scoreless the rest of the way as the Miners used a 13-0 run to finish the game.
Guard
Kristian Hudson had a team-high 20 points, five assists and three steals for the Panthers.
Also scoring in double figures for FIU were Rogers (12 points),
Lauryn Snipes (11 points),
Kiandre'a Pound (10 points) and
TaMiracle Taylor (10 points).
Pound and Snipes each had nine rebounds to lead FIU.
Forward Zuzana Puc had a game-high 27 points to lead the Miners.
FIU concludes the regular season Saturday in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Panthers take on the Golden Eagles at 5 p.m.
