MIAMI, Florida (Apr. 8, 2018) – The FIU women's tennis team won against Western Kentucky, 4-1,
on Sunday at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith tennis center.
With the win, the Panthers swept two Conference USA matches on the weekend and improved their record to 12-2. FIU defeated Middle Tennessee
Friday.
In doubles, No. 21
Ulyana Grib and
Maryna Veksler defeated WKU's Moka Ito and Monica Malinen, 6-4 and
Andrea Lazaro and
Nerma Caluk at position No. 2 won over WKU's Elpida Malamou and Violetta Shatalova, 6-1, giving FIU a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Grib defeated Malamou, 6-0, 6-0 giving FIU a 2-0 lead.
Sandra Bozinovic beat Shatalova 6-3, 7-7. Caluk clinched the match for the Panthers the second time this week and downed Cindy Oest 6-3, 7-5. Lazaro was up 7-6 and 4-1 against Ito and Veksler was a match point away from winning against WKU's Malinen, when the match was clinched.
FIU will play next on Friday, April 13 against USF at the FIU tennis courts. First serve is set for
1 P.m.
