FIU won three straight sets Saturday morning to rally past Tennessee State, 3-1, on the second day of the FIU Kickoff at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
The Panthers improved to 2-0 on the young season while the Tigers dropped to 1-2.
After TSU won the first set, FIU took over to win its second 3-1 match in as many days. FIU defeated TSU 21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-21.
Margherita Bianchin and
Abbie Hughes paced the Panthers as each player registered a double-double for the second consecutive game.
Bianchin had 15 kills and 14 assists while also contributing seven digs, four blocks and two service aces.
Hughes just missed a triple-double as she had nine kills, 31 assists and 10 digs. Hughes, a freshman out of Mason, Ohio, has collected 61 assists in her first two collegiate matches.
The Panthers also got double-digit kills from
Nina Petranovic, who had 11, and
Chelsea Hudson, who had 10 kills.
Sidney Henderson had eight kills.
Lina Bernier once again had double-digit digs. The junior libero led FIU with 16 digs.
The Panthers have a short turnaround when they conclude the FIU Kickoff against Stetson at 4 p.m. this afternoon.
