FIU surged past Chicago State, 3-1, early Friday afternoon on the second day of Panther Fest at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
After dropping the first set, the Panthers won three straight sets to defeat the Cougars, 20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-15.
FIU improved to 4-1. CSU dropped to 1-4.
The Panthers salted the match by outhitting the Cougars in the final set. FIU tallied a sizzling .455 hitting percentage in set four compared to CSU's .029 percentage.
Margherita Bianchin had 18 kills and
Nina Petranovic collected 12 kills to lead the way for the Panthers. Petranovic had a .409 hit percentage.
Bianchin had a double-double. Along with the 18 kills, Bianchin had 12 digs.
Freshmen
Ronja Klinger and
Abbie Hughes had nine kills and eight kills, respectively. Hughes added 39 assists.
Lina Bernier led FIU with 21 digs.
Chelsea Hudson had five blocks to pace the Panthers.
FIU next takes on Delaware at 5:30 p.m. Friday to close out Panther Fest.
