MIAMI (Sept. 21, 2018) - With the 2018-19 season on the horizon, the FIU women's golf team received a trove of accolades before the start of the fall campaign on Monday.
The freshman trio of
Carolina Andrade,
Agueda Cortilla and
Diana Velez, along with sophomore
Ana Maria Rengifo garnered All-American Scholar Team honors by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) for their achievements in the classroom last season.
The academic honor, which was announced earlier this summer, recognized a total of 1,011 women's collegiate golfers this year.
Selection to the All-American Scholar Team is one of the most prestigious honors in all of college athletics, requiring a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50. Despite this demanding criteria, members of the FIU women's golf team are consistently recognized.
On the course,
Valentina Gilly was named third team All-Conference USA for her efforts during the 2017-18 season. The freshman from Caracas, Venezuela led the Panthers in stroke average (75.00) and had the highest individual tournament finish with her top-10 finish at the C-USA Championship.
