North Texas defeated FIU, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at the North Texas Volleyball Center in Denton, Texas.
The Mean Green (6-13, 2-1 Conference USA) handed the Panthers (10-6, 3-1 C-USA) their first conference loss of the season after FIU won its first three league matches.
North Texas took the first two sets 25-21, 25-22 before FIU won the third set 25-17. The Panthers hit .444 in the third set. The Mean Green closed out the match with a 25-17 victory in the fourth set.
Sidney Henderson paced the Panthers with a team-high 15 kills while
Nina Petranovic had 12 kills.
Margherita Bianchin had nine kills for the Panthers.
Abbie Hughes,
Lina Bernier,
Ronja Klinger,
Carly Sosnowski and
Sheyanne Sullivan each had two service aces for FIU.
Hughes led FIU with 31 kills. Bernier had a team-high 29 digs.
Bianchin and
Chelsea Hudson each had three blocks.
FIU returns home for its next match. The Panthers host Louisiana Tech Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. from the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
