MIAMI (Jan. 10, 2019) – The 2019 FIU football schedule was unveiled Thursday afternoon, as the Conference USA announced next year's full league slate.
Featuring five bowl teams from the 2018 season, the 2019 schedule will see the Panthers play seven home games in total. Six of those games will be at Riccardo Silva Stadium, while the location of the Nov. 23rd matchup against Miami (Fla.) will be determined at a later date.
In addition to hosting the Hurricanes, FIU will play WKU, New Hampshire, UMass, Charlotte, UTEP and Old Dominion at home. FIU will travel to Tulane, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic and Marshall.
"The 2019 schedule is exciting and is the most challenging that we've faced during my tenure here at FIU," head coach
Butch Davis said. "We have a very challenging opener on the road in New Orleans against a talented Tulane team that kicks off the year and we are looking forward to an exciting 2019 season."
The season will kickoff on Thursday night, as the Panthers travel to Tulane (Aug. 29) to play the Green Wave. The Panthers host WKU (Sept. 7) in their C-USA season opener the following weekend, before welcoming non-conference foe New Hampshire (Sept. 14) to the friendly confines of Riccardo Silva Stadium.
After back-to-back games at home, the Panthers will head west for Ruston as FIU visits Louisiana Tech (Sept. 21). The Sept. 28th date will serve as an open week, before the Panthers host UMass (Oct. 5) for the third-straight season.
Following the non-conference matchup with the Minutemen, the Panthers will play five-straight C-USA games. A home date against Charlotte (Oct. 12) kicks off the league stretch, before the Panthers welcome UTEP (Oct. 19) to cap back-to-back contests at Riccardo Silva Stadium.
FIU visits Middle Tennessee (Oct. 26) to close out the month of October, prior to the Panthers opening November at home against Old Dominion (Nov. 2). FIU will seek to take back bragging rights against FAU (Nov. 9) the next week, as the Panthers and Owls square off for Shula Bowl XVIII in Boca Raton.
After taking on the Owls, the Panthers will have their second bye week of the year before hosting Miami (Nov. 23) at a location to be determined. The Panthers will spend Thanksgiving weekend in Huntington, West Virginia as FIU travels to Marshall (Nov. 30) to close out the regular-season slate.
The 15th edition of the C-USA Championship, pitting the champions of the East and West Divisions, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7.
All games are subject to date changes and some dates are expected to move in the coming weeks in order accommodate national television. A schedule of televised games will be released at a later date.
