MIAMI (Oct.16, 2019) - Three Panthers will head to Tallahassee to represent FIU women's tennis in the ITA Southeast Women's Regional Championship, as play is set to begin on Thursday, Oct. 17 and last through Monday, Oct. 20. 

The four-day event hosted by Florida State at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center will run from Thursday, Oct. 17 - Monday, Oct. 21. Making the trip for the Panthers is the sophomore duo of Kamila Umarova and Basak Akbas, along with newcomer Marina Alcaide. All three athletes will compete in singles competition, while Umarova and Akbas will be paired together for doubles.

"The girls are ready to compete," head coach Katarina Petrovic said. "Since the Bedford Cup, they have made improvements in our playing and are excited to get back on the court for competition."

Athletes from FAMU, Florida, Florida State, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Georgia, Tech, Kennesaw, Mercer, Miami, North Florida, Stetson, UCF and USF will join the Panthers in Tallahassee this weekend. At the 2017 ITA event, Maryna Veksler and Ulyana Grib came out victorious in doubles play with wins over Georgia Tech, Florida and Miami to win the doubles title.
